Georgia-Pacific
Marketing and Sales Support InternGreen Bay, Wisconsin
During my internship with Georgia-Pacific I was able to gain a variety of useful skills that I will be able to bring with me to complement my successful completion of any task. My experience with Georgia-Pacific provided me the opportunity to:
- Learn systems, products, and processes very quickly
- Gather Internal and External research off of which to base recommendations for improvement of processes
- Prepare presentations and improve my leadership skill by organizing and heading group meetings
- Gain extensive experience with SAP, Microsoft Access, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
At Georgia-Pacific I was dedicated to multiple projects at a time that allowed me to use a combination of creative and analytical skills on a daily basis. A project that had pushed me to use analytical skills was one in which I analyzed the information entry process into the company's many data warehouses that housed product information. My goal in analyzing these systems was to identify discrepancies in the information stored in the various databases. After identifying common inconsistencies I began to trace the information back to it's origin in order to understand what point in the information entry process had been problematic. Ultimately, my objective was to identify problematic points in the information entry process and recommend ways in which to eliminate the problem through either an automated system or a proposed process to increase information input efficiency.
A second project served as an opportunity to use research skills and employe creativity. My overall objective for this project was to evaluated the company's end-user website performance and gave recommendations for improving end-user self-service via website usage. In order to conduct my research on the company's website performance I utilized a variety of internal and external resources. Google Analytics served as a way to explore the current overall traffic within the different pages of the website. Moreover, I was able to use the company's internally collected data to generated excel datasheets and pivot tables to gather an understanding of the types of improvements the individual webpages needed. I based my recommendations off of the information I had collected from my research and was able to provide recommendations to the Marketing and eCommerce teams.
KI
Marketing Communications Intern
Green Bay, Wisconsin
During my internship experience with KI I was able to collaborate with the Marketing Communication team on a variety of projects. My internship came at a very exciting time as the company was in the midst of preparing for NeoCon 2012, North America's largest design exposition. In the months leading up to the event, I was able to assist in planning the showroom planning and organizing events. Further, in preparation for the event KI took advantage of many opportunities to communicate with the industry. That said, I was able to act as the voice for KI and increase its presence in major social media outlets leading up to the event. To increase communication further I was able to introduce KI to the blogosphere with KI Connect.
A project in which I was able to work creatively included coordinating with Project Managers and clients to gather information about various installation and design projects. After gaining background knowledge of each individual project I was able to gather the overall goal of the clients and the unique solution that KI was able to offer. Overall, the project profiles served as a way to showcase products in an attractive and creative way and aid the sales team in discussing product benefits with clients. The links below include examples of project profiles from a variety of markets:
Northern Illinois University, Grant Hall
Florida International University
During my time with KI, the company was in the course of revamping their company website which presented the Marketing team with many challenges. After finishing training on the company's Content Management System I was able to aid in the website revamp by adding product photos, information, support and project profiles. Moreover, with the introduction of new products I was able to work with local photography studios to capture photos of the new product lines to add to the new website.
